What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is the clinical, evidence-based use of music by a board-certified music therapist to address motor, communication, cognitive, and social/emotional goals. Through therapeutic singing, songwriting, improvisation, instrument playing, movement to music and more, clients engage in the musical process in a supportive, creative, and predictable environment.

About Nikki
Nikki Spurgeon, MS, MT-BC has 19 years of experience as a board-certified music therapist. She began her career in Pittsburgh, PA at Allegheny Valley School serving adults of all ages with developmental disabilities. She soon moved on to Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD where she worked as an adapted music educator for three years. For the past 15 years, she has been a music therapist at Kennedy Krieger’s inpatient rehabilitation hospital, serving patients with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and post-orthopedic surgery rehab needs. Nikki’s passion is to create a nurturing musical environment where clients can express themselves while simultaneously making functional gains.
